1) Sin is no big deal

2) All relationships are about personal satisfaction

3) Marriage and intimacy are not sacred

4) You can handle things on your own

5) History is flexible and can be reinterpreted or reinvented at will

6) There is no absolute right and wrong

7) If people intended well, anything can be justified

8) There is no life after death

9) Theft isn’t a sin if the person you’re stealing from is rich

10) Evil is just as strong as good or as strong as God

11) People are disposable

12) If you’re in the right then you have the right to disrespect those in the wrong

13) If you don’t end up in love with someone, then you’ve failed in life

14) Personal happiness is the only meaning in life

15) Don’t ever trust anyone

16) If you don’t have what someone else has, then you’re oppressed.

17) The spiritual world only exists in fiction

18) There are many ways to God

19) You won’t have to face the consequences of your decisions

20) It’s not your problem

“Any amount of theology can now be smuggled into people’s minds under the cover of fiction without their knowing it.” C. S. Lewis

so thankful for this post

True but…

Here are 20 other things fiction can make you believe:

1) Sin can destroy lives

2) A truly loving relationship cares more about the other person than yourself

3) Marriage and intimacy are sacred, precious things

4) You can’t do it all yourself

5) What happened in the past has huge repercussions and can’t be changed

6) Right and wrong are not subjective and they absolutely do matter

7) You can have good intentions and still do horrible unjustifiable things

8) There is life after death

9) Stealing from the rich is still stealing

10) Good is stronger than evil

11) People are valuable

12) Even people who are wrong deserve respect - they’re people too

13) There’s more to life than romantic love

14) Life is full of meaning way beyond yourself

15) Trusting people is a risk, but it’s worth it

16) Even if you don’t have what someone else has, you can still be content if you’re grateful for what you’ve got

17) There’s more to life than the material

18) There is only one way to God

19) You will have to face the consequences of your decisions, and they might not be pretty

20) Others’ peoples suffering IS your problem

Fiction is powerful people, but thankfully it can be used for good and often is.
